Dost scholarship application for undergraduate scholarship for Academic Year 2020-2021 is now available for download. The first batch of senior high school students under the K to 12 Program of DepEd will graduate this 2020 and those in the STEM track will have a chance to take the DOST Scholarship exam on October 15, 2020.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) through the Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) announces the availability of dost scholarship for Master’s and Doctorate (MS & PhD) degrees in priority science and technology (S&T) areas through the implementation of the Accelerated Science and Technology Human Resource Development Program (ASTHRDP) and Engineering Research & Development for Technology (ERDT).

This is a consortium of eight member universities in the country that offer master’s and doctoral degrees in various engineering fields. De La Salle University (DLSU), Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT), Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), Mindanao State University Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), University of San Carlos (USC), Central Luzon State University (CLSU), University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) constitute the consortium.

DOST Scholarship 2020 (Brief Statistics)

Thousands of aspiring scientists and engineers will enter college with a Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) scholarship stamp.

The country’s premier science scholarship program, back after a two-year hiatus due to the implementation of the K-12 Curriculum, announced 8,994 new qualifiers for its RA 7687 and Merit Scholarship programs.

Out of the total number of passers, 5,172 qualified as scholars under the RA 7687 Scholarship Program, scholarships for gifted students who belong to economically disadvantaged families; while 3,822 passed under the DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship Program.

A record-breaking 8,994 new scholars qualified for the 2020 edition of the RA 7687 and Merit scholarship programs. The former is for gifted students belonging to economically disadvantaged families, while the latter is for students with high aptitude in science and math. It’s the highest number of qualifiers since the program started in 1958, outdoing 2015’s 5,303 qualifiers by 69.60 percent.

Dost scholarship requirements

Current DOST Philippines Scholarship Programmes offers opportunities to talented and deserving students who wish to pursue 4 or 5 year degree priority courses in science and technology fields. The DOST RA 7687 Scholarships and the Merit Scholarships, including graduate programs; both aim to produce and develop high quality human resources needed for the Science and Technology (S&T) and Research and Development (R&D) initiatives in the country.

Dost scholarship courses

Current DOST Philippines Scholarship Programmes are available for pursuing the STEM undergraduate and graduate program which are in different categories and stated as follows;

RA 7687 Science and Technology Scholarship: for Current DOST Scholarship Programmes applicant whose socio-economic status does not exceed the set values of all the identified indicators as approved by DOST-SEI Advisory Committee on S&T Scholarships. No fees are required for RA 7687 applicants.

DOST-MERIT Scholarship: for Current DOST Philippines Scholarship Programmes applicant who belongs to a family whose socio-economic status does not exceed the set values of any of the identified indicators. The applicants must pay a non-refundable test fee of P200;

and three graduate DOST scholarship options:

ASTHRDP-NSC: This refers to Current DOST Philippines Scholarship Programmes in Master’s and Doctorate degrees in priority S&T areas through the implementation of the Accelerated Science and Technology Human Resource Development Program – National Science Consortium (ASTHRDP-NSC).

ERDT: This refers to Current DOST Philippines Scholarship Programmes in Master’s and Doctorate degrees in various engineering fields through the implementation of the Engineering Research and Development for Technology (ERDT).

CBPSME: This refers to Current Dost Scholarship Programmes in Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Science and Mathematics Education through the implementation of the Capacity Building Program in Science and Mathematics Education (CBPSME), in partnership with the National Consortium in Graduate Science and Mathematics Education.

The following courses are identified as priority courses in Dost Scholarship 2020 which consist more of Science and Technology professionals in these fields; Aeronautical Engineering, Agriculture, Animal Science, Biochemistry, Forestry, Geology, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Marine Science, Meteorology, Pharmacy, Public Health, and many more. Host Nationality:

Current DOST Scholarship 2020 Programmes are hosted by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Philippines in partnership with State Universities and Colleges (SUC), CHED identified Centers of Excellence (COE) or Centers of Development (COD) for the priority S&T courses; and Institutions with FAAP Level III Accreditation.

Eligible Nationality:

Current Dost Scholarship 2020 is open to local students from Philippines who come from a low socio-economic status families.

The number of offers differs according to the different scholarships.

Eligibility:

The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the Dost Scholarship 2020 Programmes:

  • Natural born Filipino Citizen.
  • Poor, Talented and deserving student who belongs to a family whose socio-economic status does not exceed the set values of certain indicators.
  • Member of  the Top 5% of the Non-STEM strand of senior high school graduating class;
  • Member of the STEM strand senior high school graduating class;
  • Resident of the municipality for the last 4 years as attested by the barangay;
  • Of good moral character and in good health; and
  • Qualifier of the 2019 S&T Scholarship Examinationand for graduate applicants;the candidate must be
    • Not be more than 45 years old at the time of application;
    • Be in good health and of good moral character;
    • Have a BS/MS degree in engineering or related field; and
    • Have no criminal or administrative cases.
    • Pass the admission requirements for graduate studies at any of the consortium member-universities;
    • Have at least two years teaching experience in science and mathematics for PhD, or at least one year teaching experience or have graduated with academic honors or graduated as DOST scholar for Master’s;
    • (If employed:) Be allowed to study full-time for two or three years and part-time for six years of Distance Education Mode.
    • Not be a recipient of other scholarships;
    • Be willing to accept the terms and conditions specified in the Scholarship Contract which include, among others, return service.

Application Deadline:

For both types of Current DOST Programmes, the deadline for submission of applications is on September 21, 2020 and June 8, 2020 for ERDT and June 15, 2020 for ASTHRDP-NSC and CBPSME. The examination will be on October 21, 2020.
